PLANUS TRACKS

PLANUS TRACKS.JPG

Similar to Bite ramps, Planas tracks are small composite build-ups that instead of on the back of the teeth and placed and bonded on the occlusal surface of the molars and/ or premolars to open up the bite. This is usually done so that under-bites can be remedied because the Planas tracks open the the bite to allow the front teeth to move in front of the lowers.

By elevating the right teeth we can open the bite enough to move teeth and stop bad habits. The front teeth will sit in an open bite for a short amount of time (that is not touching each other) but lots of teeth will semi-correct themselves to a better position once placed in a proper bite. Braces will still be needed however to correct the teeth positions properly.

This treatment is also a great option when children are very young to prevent further issues with teeth development and positions, if caught early enough in some cases Planas tracks can turn long complex orthodontic cases into short, easier fixes at later stage.

Planas tracks are temporary and will be removed once the bite position has been corrected.

In the image to the left, by adding a small amount of tooth coloured material (can be matched to the natural tooth colour of the patient) the entire bite is moved to a better position for all the other teeth and aesthetics. It may take sometime (1-2 weeks) to get used to this new position but eventually it will feel normal and the other teeth will grow to sit in the right positioning (with the help of braces).
