Hyrax

All hyraxes are appliances that require action by the parent/child in turning, wrenches must be kept in safe spot as there is a cost in replacing a lost one.

Parents/Patients should keep a detailed schedule of turns. The more compliant the better and faster the treatment, if turns are forgotten or done wrong treatment will take longer.

Most hyraxes are kept in the mouth for 9 months after expansion is finished while Bracketing is in progress to hold the expansion in place.

BANDED HYRAX

The expander works by widening the bone on the upper arch. If the treatment is done early this device can widen palate which will create more room for the adult teeth. The smile can also be widened so a smile will look and fit better. The fixed expander widens the upper jaw and keeps it in place while the mouth adjusts to the new position. You should expect the expander to remain in your mouth for around three to nine months.

Use: Deep Bites Bonded

HYBRID HYRAX

The hybrid expander, takes the concepts from both and the bonded and banded hyrax. The main form is similar to the banded hyrax however small-large amounts of composite resin are bonded on to the top of some teeth to open the bite to the desired position. These are not permanent and are removed at a similar time to the hyrax. Hybrids are more effective than the Bonded hyrax as the hybrid allows for baby teeth to fall out or be removed without effecting the hyrax, this is not doable withe bonded hyrax.
