‘Grummons’ Orthodontic Headgear

The Grumman’s facemark is for treatment of maxillary inefficiencies and mandibular prognathism, as well as Class II and closing spaces. It provides a Reverse-pull movement without TMJ loading.

The main purpose of this headgear is to produce intrusive direction of force to maxillary teeth, with posterior directed forces.

Should be worn to bed and for at least 2 hrs during the day, this can be done while doing homework of watching tv.

Patient compliance is crucial for the headgear to have the best results. The headgear is used in conjunction with a detainer/ hyrax or fixed braces and is worn by attaching elastics (provided by the dentist) from the braces and stretching them over the hoops on the mask.

The dentist will show you with hooks on the braces to use and which specific hoop on the mask to use, these may change from time to time. A time sheet will be provided to help remind you to wear the mask and from how long and will need to be filled in and brought in with each visit to record how compliant the patient has been in wearing the headgear.

THE MORE THE HEADGEAR IS WORN THE BETTER THE TREATMENT.
