The D-Gainer
Used in conjunction to to a hyrax or after a hyrax to keep retention. Brackets are placed on the last two molars and the front 4 teeth, using a light pressured wire and springs, teeth are moved and opened to make way for adult tooth eruption.
More brackets are added as adult teeth erupt moving towards full bracketing. Patients will need to come in for adjustments every 4-6 weeks depending on individual cases. Early treatment is advisable as providing this treatment as the kid grows helps the teeth to move into the right places.
In extreme cases, teeth that are erupting in the wrong place/angle can cause undoable damage to other teeth, catching this early enough to change this and keep surrounding teeth safe.
If teeth are erupting into the roof of the mouth, detainer treatment is a great way to moved these teeth at an early start before braces come into full effect.
